The Berks County Chiefs of Police Association Testing Consortium is offering a written examination for those interested in becoming a police officer in one of the 10- participating county police departments in Berks County. The written test will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at both 9 AM and 2 PM (depending on the first letter of your last name) at the O'Pake Science Center at Alvernia University, 400 Saint Bernadine Street, Reading, PA 19607. Interested persons may obtain a registration form at www.berkscountypolicechiefs.org The completed registration form, along with a check or money order for $75 (payable to "BCCPA"), must be mailed and received by the Berks County Chiefs of Police Association, c/o Wyomissing Police Department, "Consortium Testing", 22 Reading Boulevard, Wyomissing, PA 19610 by Friday, September 12, 2014. Candidates achieving a written score of 70 or better will proceed to the physical performance test, on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 8 AM at the Alvernia University's Track & Schlager Memorial Field. Candidates must produce photo ID to participate in each phase of the testing. This testing is not a guarantee that all or any department will be hiring in 2014 or 2015.
The Cumru Township Police Department is participating in the 2014 Berks County Police Testing Consortium. Cumru Township has no immediate plans for hiring. In the event that the Cumru Township Police Department does receive approval to hire we will contact the prospective applicants listed on the final approved consortium list.
Gouglersville Road Phase 2: Starts August 26, 2014
Cumru Township is embarking on phase 2 of a five year project to reconstruct and improve Gouglersville Rd. In the near future, phase 2 will tale place from Beavens Rd. to a point approximately 1,500 feet to the north. A detour will be set up during construction, as depicted in the drawing below. Construction is anticipated to start in late august. Although the project may involve temporary inconvenience, it will provide a long-term improvement to a major Township road.

The Cumru Township Police Department has partnered with Project ChildSafe, a nationwide firearms safety education program, to distribute firearms safety kits, which include a free gun lock, to our residents. Project ChildSafe, a program developed by the National Shooting sports Foundation (NSSF), has distributed more than 36 million firearms safety kits throughout the nation since 2003. To receive a free kit or for more information, stop in at the Police Department's office, 1775 Welsh Rd., during regular business hours, or call Sgt. Thomas Pinkasavage at (610)777-9595.
